Match-on-Action

The first camera technique is match on action which is where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shots action. An example of this is a man walking up to a door and reaching for the knob.

For our preliminary task were told to include 3 camera techniques in our video. These 3 techniques were: Match-on-Action, Shot-Reverse-Shot and 180 degree rule.

Shot-Reverse-Shot

The second camera technique is shot reverse shot which is where there is one shot first shown of one character facing another, then a second shot is shown where the perspective has changed to over the shoulder of the second character then back to the first shot.

180 Degree Rule

The third camera technique is 180 degree rule which is an unwritten law that all film makers follow which states that 2 characters in a scene should maintain the same left/right relationship to one another, if this rule is broken it can confuse the audience and make for uncomfortable viewing.
